The Commission of power

We need the gifts of The Holy Spirit to empower us to do the will of God on this earth. The great commission is one of power. Jesus is the example, He came and ministered in the power of God to impact a broken world, to demonstrate the mercy of GOD and verify the Gospel that He preached with that power. We need it! Why do we need it? He wants us to obtain it! How then do we get it? What does it look like? How long do we have to wait to get it?

Our world is broken through sin (obedience to satan). Most people are blind to the truth and are perishing in their sin. Many rely on medications, alcohol or drugs to try and manage the death that reigns in them. Jesus is the giver of life, the one who sets people who put their trust in Him free. He heals the sick and the brokenhearted. So how can we do for these people around us what Jesus does? Well, we need Him to equip us with the power that He has. If we ask Him to equip and empower us for His great commission, then He will. Now, when we ask do we expect that power to instantly come upon us? If we do, then we do not understand how the equipping takes place and how long it may take. It begins with us. Firstly God will heal us and set us free and then, just as we have received we can freely give.

MATTHEW 7 : 1 - 5 NKJV
“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

From verses 4 and 5 we can see that Jesus is saying that we must first be set free of something before we can understand it and help someone else.

JOB 28 : 28 NKJV
28 And to man He said,
‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom,
And to depart from evil is understanding.’”

In other words we gain understanding through repentance. We learn how to escape the snares of satan by the power of The Holy Spirit first, and then we can help others to do the same with His empowerment.

ROMANS 8 : 13 NKJV
13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

Now departing from sin is the first part of the eqippping and an ongoing one, but there is more. Jesus desires that we do even greater miracles on this earth than He has done. When Jesus was equipping His disciples He sent them out with power to cast out demons and to heal the sick and to preach repentance. I can personally testify that this is also my experience. Yes it is still happening today! I write about this from experience, it is not a theory of mine. It is Jesus's great commission for the salvation of mankind and it can only be done with the provision of His power and in His way and on His time frame. If we commit ourselves faithfully to Him, then He will prepare us for it and He will release us into it at His pleasure. Many of us may have tried to share His Gospel but have believed that we have failed and consequently gave up, but did we try to do it ourselves? He can do it through us and He wants to use us powerfully, but we must be trained and empowered by Him or we will fail.
