Sin, the great blindness!!!

MATTHEW 5 : 8 NKJV
Blessed are the pure in heart,
    For they shall see God.

So those who are not pure in heart can not see God. Does this mean that a person who can not physically see God is not pure in heart? I believe that it means that the more pure a person's heart is, the more that that person can know God. What then is it to be pure in heart? How then can one become pure in heart if they are not already?

PROVERBS 23 : 26 NKJV
26 My son, give me your heart,
And let your eyes observe my ways.

Our heavenly Father desires of us, that we would give Him all of our hearts. In doing this we will then obey Him in all things. (Having our eyes observing His ways. Therefore seeing the way that He desires us to go and walking in that.)

JAMES 4 : 8
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

James 4 : 8 is saying that God is wanting us to draw near to Him and then He will draw near to us. That means that the first move is ours, yes the more we draw near to God the closer we will be to Him. And in the second part of verse 8 is how we get closer to God, by cleansing our sinfulness and purifying our hearts. In other words the more that we seek God, the more we will become obedient to Him.

Well then, how can sin make us blind?

ISAIAH 5 : 20 NKJV
20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness;
Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

If then a person has chosen that evil is good for themselves, then that person is blind to what is good. For example there are many that would call a policeman or policewoman bad if they booked them for speeding. Really the person who was speeding was the one who was being evil, but they have said that it was good and that the law was evil. Those people are lawless. It is their own decision to call lawlessness good that blinds them from what is really good. The law was made for their own protection and for the protection of others and that is good. In the same way a person may say that anger is good, because it is the power to intimidate others to get what you want from them, but is that good? Many people choose evil over good because they see it as a power that they have to get what they want. Because they have called it good, then they are blinded to what is truly good.

If then a person is trapped in calling good evil and evil good, how can they see their way out of it? If a person sees good as evil, why would that person want to become good? We have all done this.

ROMANS 3 : 23 NKJV
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Yes we have all sinned and we have all been separated from God. Yes we have all called evil good and good evil. None of us know how much we have been separated from God because the places of sin that remain in our hearts make us blind to what is good. Those things therefore are depriving us and those around us of what is good.

The only way out is to ask God to rescue us from what has made us blind, that we may see what is good, so that we may walk in it. So again we must draw near to Him first and then He will draw nearer to us.
