Who is your head?

JAMES 4 : 1 - 9 NKJV

Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”?
But He gives more grace. Therefore He says:
“God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the humble.”

Humility Cures Worldliness

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.

In other words, do you strive in the world for what you want/need for yourself? Are you like the world, where it is a case of everyone for themselves? Is life a competition with others to obtain what you want/need? Do you believe that you are your own provider? If so, then you do not understand the easy yoke of The Lord. If you believe that you need to compete with others for goods, power, position, etc. then you are the head of yourself and that makes you independent of God. We are to be dependent on God for all things.(That does not mean that you should leave your job. God provides through your employment and as well as other ways.) If you are independent then you are proud of your own achievements, proud of what you have gained, proud of who you are, and this is vanity. If you are some or all of these things then please do not condemn yourself, but understand that you have grown up in a world where this is what most people are taught and most people act in these ways. You do not have to be like it anymore because you can ask God to show you the worldliness that you are trapped in and ask Him to rescue you from it.

MATTHEW 6 : 25 - 34 NKJV

Do Not Worry

25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Verse 33 says it all,  But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
