THE SINNERS PRAYER AND FALSE SALVATION

Many people have prayed a prayer of commitment to Jesus Christ asking for the forgiveness of all of their sins and that He would give to them eternal life. At this time many of them have been led to believe that they have been saved. THAT IS A LIE!!!

Salvation is a journey of "SANCTIFICATION".

NKJV  2 THESSALONIANS 2 :13-14
13 But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, 14 to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

NKJV ROMANS 8 :13-14
13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

What then is "sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth"? Well let us look at some other scripture.

2 TIMOTHY 2 : 19-21
19 Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”
20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. 21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.

Therefore a person who cleanses himself or herself of their sin is a person who is being SANCTIFIED.

(By the way did you notice that when you are sanctified that you will be useful for the Master and prepared for every good work! Ever wondered why the Church in general is lacking power?)

QUESTION:
If the Church of whom Paul is speaking to Timothy about are "Saved Believers" why would he exhort Timothy to remind them of these things? And why would he say  “The Lord knows those who are His,”?

MATTHEW 7 : 21-23
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

Clearly Jesus was saying in the above scripture that many will come before Him calling Him Lord but He will not allow them into Heaven because they are disobedient to The father. (These are people who believe that they are Christians)

Clearly a sinners prayer(prayer of commitment) alone will not get you in!

So then how does one walk in SANCTIFICATION?
Well as you can see above, SANCTIFICATION is in the Power of The Holy Spirit and it involves dealing with your sin. I suggest that you would ask The Holy Spirit to save you through Sanctification, and then He will. He will convict you of your sin and then your part is to ask for His forgiveness and to ask Him where this sin has originated from so that you may understand where you first sinned in this way, that you may ask Him to forgive you for the original sin that you have committed and for all of the subsequent sins. Then you can ask Him to empower you in being obedient to Him in this area and this may involve more prayer in the same area to get to the place of repentance. (Repentance is when we no longer practice the sin.) This is the beginning of the journey of SANCTIFICATION.
We all have a lot to deal with whether we realize it or not, but as we journey in sanctification we are set free of the sin which holds us captive and our lives just get better as we go on. However the greatest blessing of all is that we are being reconciled to GOD and we are receiving His Salvation.
